Style Check

Soo I'm in grad school,,, and I get ridiculous! amounts of homework!!! However, this weekend I was happy to only have one project that would not take up alllllll of my time.  So I decided to use my Saturday to do one of the things I love,,, and that is going around Philly looking for people who I think are fashionably interesting... in one way or another.  I started my journey in Old City, then Rittenhouse Square, Walnut street, where somehow I found myself in club Adesso and finally I ended my journey comfortably at the Continental on 18th and Chestnut.... here goes....

You may wonder (or not lol) how I choose who to capture... I look for people who not only look presentable, but who also "thought" about what they put on, who look appropriate and are not trying too hard! and yadda yadda yada!! lols hope u like :)

Why I love Forever 21!

I love Forever 21 because it allows me to continuously transform my style and wardrobe.  Of course I know forever is cheap! and the merchandise is not the best of quality, however, when you want to be cute for the low ($) it is a great place!

2 times a year new styles, colors and silhouettes are "made popular", once for spring/summer and the other, fall/winter.  While trends are fun to follow, its important to remember that not all the trends for the season are for you... soooo pick 1 or 2 that fit you (your style, body type) best!

When building a wardrobe its best to start with the basics....jeans, blazers, (nice) tank tops, white shirts, little black dress....etc. I hope you catch my drift lols......basically things that you can wear all the time!  Clothes that you wear frequently, I feel are the pieces you want to splurge more on, or at least choose more carefully, after all,, these are pieces you'll be wearing daily (like every week!) (or every other week!!).  These basic pieces should be timeless! meaning not too trendy... good quality, you can have it for a looong time, and last but not least, it should have great fit!

A basic piece like this can be worn for professional events (job interviews),, or you could roll the sleeves up and wear it with jeans and a cute shirt.  Also if you have a really sexy dress you can wear this over, to tone down your look while still looking nice until you arrive to the party!
Basic pieces like this are great to have and can be used in many ways.

Once you have the foundation, thats where the fun comes in.... trends and adding more dimension to your look.  "Shopping Forever" allows you to follow trends that you love at a low price.  Thats the point of the store... it has a high turnover rate meaning they constantly get new merchandise, to instantly provide the new colors! silhouettes! and styles of the time!!  I looove shopping there because I can spend less then $20 dollars on a trend thats gonna go out of style in the next 6-12 months anyway!!!!
For example....one spring/summer trend that was cool was rose gold jewelry, and rose gold watches took off!!!
Watches like this Michael Kors rose gold watch can range in price $200-700

My thought is why spend that kinda cash when rose gold may not even be the "it" piece next season,, then you've spent all that $$$ for something you may not even WANT to wear next year...(bummer!)..... soooo I still use trends!!! But for inspiration,,, u don't have to follow these trends to a "T"

rose gold "colored" hoop earrings from H&M $7.50

Rose gold "colored" aviator frames from Forever 21 $5

For me trend inspiration is a way to look relevant through the different seasons and Forever 21 allows me to do this in a way that is appropriate for my budget.  Thats why I love it!!(and all the stores like it...lol)

Music In my Bones.

Sooo while leaving the 4th of July Parade,,,,I was rushing back to catch my train,, but I couldn't resist this sound!!!! OMG!!! first off, all I see is a bunch of people gathered around in the middle of the parkway! I'm like what the hell lols....... so of course being "me" I squeeze through the crowd to witness the action for myself.............. a full band!!! live music! alll up my alley!! lol  This band is called the Jazz Connections, Jazz Band!! they are an amazingly talented group of young men! all mastering their instruments,,, and even one fellow switching back and forth from the african drum to the trombone!! Honestly their music was like flowing through my bones! lols it was wonderful!! people were literally dancing in the street!! from the dougie (my fav)lol to the the regular ole' bop wit a two-step!!!!

But anyway! it was great!! "Jazz Connections" really made my night!!! wish I could have stayed longer.

Btw! I know my pics are out of focus,,,, but I couldn't stop moving to the music!! lol

4th of July!!!!!!! Style Check!

Hey Lovers!! Hope you had a great holiday weekend!

To celebrate, I went down to the Parkway in Philly.  Every year for Independence Day the Benjamin Franklin Parkway features food, vendors, a parade, an array of musical performances and of course FIREWORKS!

This year I must say that the show was pretty bumpin!!!
Performers:
The Roots!
Earth, Wind and Fire
Michael McDonald
Estelle
Sara Bareilles
DJ Jazzy Jeff
The crowd was also pleasantly surprised by a few other groups such as a Philly favorite, the O'jays, and Philly's own Boys II Men!!!  I'd say the show was Great!!! it was hard to not dance! and young and old alike were singing along to all the songs!

While down there I wanted to check out the new styles in Philly.  Although I believe Philadelphia is a place where people like fashion, and are fashionable I wouldn't say that they are the most creative or individual with there clothing choices, soooooo I tried my best to find folks who stood out from the crowd.

I thought this guy look great!! Def dressed for the occasion lol... I loove how he did it tho... its hard to look patriotic and fashionable at the same time..but overall I think he looks so cute,, love the glasses (whimsy) and those muscles don't hurt either!!! lols

I guess the idea of the fannie pack coming back!!! I mean they are just soo functional!!!! Why not also make it fashionable!!!
This is what I wore...My top is like a crop top,,, its vintage, my shorts are from forever21 and my shoes are like leather Jesus shoes from Macys... they are by dolce vita

My latest Tulip dress!

The Event:

Last weekend I attended The Black & White Gala held at the Radisson Plaza- Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia.  Overall the event was great! Firstly! the venue was GORG! The music was cool, ranging from oldies to hip hop and rap and dance floor was Hot! pretty much throughout the whole night! the crowd was young to mature, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.  The only real drawback was the bar... The line was long alll night, meaning if you stood in line for two drinks you'd be lucky if you got the dance two whole songs.
Anyway the C & G Marketing Group is responsible for this event and if they did another,,, I'd totally be down to attend the next!  When it comes to some Philly events I think that they lack a certain sophistication than those in a lot of other cities.... however, think this event was start in the right direction. thats all...

The Dress:

When it comes to partying I looooove cocktail dresses! so thats why I chose this length.  The fringe was simply because I wanted to look different... and nothing to do with flappers or the 20's cause that would be a whole nother' party! lols...I mean who else is gonna have this dress!! Lovely!  Any who, I decided to go with an all white dress and w/ black accessories.... Simply because most people where gonna wear black,,, and also a black and white outfit is either to cliche, matchy matchy or just confusing! IDK... its just me...  and the all black shoes, earrings and clutch worked as my pops of color off my white dress... and that is all. ;0

Earrings: I got these from forever 21 or some place like that lols
Purse: vintage! from my Gram ma's closet.
Shoes! Boutique 9, I got them ON Sale! at Macy's... can we say 5 1/4 inches to be exact! lol

The Dress! Tulip, My line of course.. the front
The back! Is there anything more subtly sexy! than a low back?
THE END.
